After going through my iPhoto albums, I noticed we’ve taken quite a few pictures of making lip balm over the years. I also realized our photo gallery is lacking photos. Uploading more photos is on my to-do list.
With that said, I’m going to share some photos along with a quick rundown on how we make our lip balm so you can see how it’s all done. A measuring cup, a small pot , a pouring container and a chop stick are just a few of the tools used.
The pot is filled halfway with water and place on the stove over medium heat.
Ingredients are placed into the pouring container. Ingredients consists of our beeswax, coconut oil and flavor oils. The container is then placed into the pot. Use the chop stick to stir while the wax and coconut oil melt. I prefer using a porcelain chop stick for easy cleaning.
Remove from the heat after it is all melted. Let it sit for a few minutes before adding the flavor oils of your choice. After you’ve stirred in your flavor oils you are ready to pour your batch into the tray. I usually cover the tray with plastic wrap and let it sit over night. Before you remove the tubes you have to scrape the top of the tray.
After the tubes are removed, the tops of the tubes also need to be scraped before the caps can go on. The scrapings can be remelted to be used to fill small containers or saved for use later. Once the caps are placed on, the only thing left to do is add your labels, seal the tubes and enjoy.
