Making Lip Balm

After going through my albums, I noticed we’ve taken quite a few pictures while making lip balm over the years. I am going to share some photos along with a quick rundown on how we make our beeswax lip balm so you can see how it’s all done.

Making lip balm is not too complicated You do not need a lot of fancy tools. All you need is a measuring cup, a small pot , a pouring container and a chop stick. Of course you will need some sort of container to pour your lip balm into. We use a standard round, .15 oz. twist up tube.

The ingredients we use consists of our beeswax, coconut oil and flavor oils. The beeswax we use come from our own hives. The coconut oil is 100% pure organic coconut oil, it is non-hydrogenated, non-GMO with 0 trans fat. All flavors used are Vegan, non-GMO, soy-free, gluten free, alcohol free & cruelty free.

Making Lip Balm – Our Process!

The pot is filled halfway with water and place on the stove over medium heat. Ingredients are placed into the pouring container. The container is then placed into the pot of hot water. Chop sticks are used to stir while the beeswax and coconut oil melt.  I prefer using porcelain chop sticks for easy cleaning.

After it is all melted the pouring container is removed from the heat. We let it sit for a few minutes before adding the flavor oils. After we’ve stirred in the flavor oils we are ready to pour the batch into the tray. I usually cover the tray with plastic wrap and let it sit over night. Before you remove the tubes you have to scrape the excess lip balm off the top of the tray. This excess lip balm can be added to the next batch of the same flavor. Or it can be melted again and poured into smaller containers and used as samples.

With the tray scraped of the excess lip balm the tubes need to be removed from the pouring tray. Sometimes the tubes need a little cleanup before the caps can be installed. With the caps on the last step is adding the label and the shrink wrap. The pouring try can make up to 50 tubes of lip balm at a time. However if you are careful and accurate with your pouring you can make as few as 10 or 11 tubes. All that is left to do now is enjoy the fruits of your labor! Or you can save a lot of time and energy and just buy one of our great lip balms
